After Learning Of Shooting, Emotional US Pair Stumbles In Pairs Free Skate

They were an integral part of the US winning the team bronze.

The two embraced and kissed after finishing their short programme on Wednesday, with Chris gently running a hand over his wife's hair. The pair missed nearly all of the 2016-17 season's competitions as she recovered, her new husband holding her so she wouldn't fall when she returned. "I have fans out there who know that I am a true believer in the Lord and I'm trying my best to shine his light and let people know that it's okay to promote him and do things for him, because in the Christian life that's kind of what we're supposed to".

Scimeca Knierim lost a lot of faith in herself, she told Figure Skaters Online.

Her absence took months off their training schedule as she was forced to learn the basic skating moves from scratch until her strength returned.

"I was not focused on it while we were skating, but now that we are done, after we've skated, there's an emotional hurt", she said.

"My first thought", she said about their performance, "was I hope teams that are not here - we all want to be here - aren't saying they could've done better".

They now are in 14th place after their short program and are scheduled to take the ice again Wednesday (Feb. 14) for their final free skate in the pairs figure skating competition. They had honed the vaunted quad twist - one of the most hard, and therefore highest-scoring, elements in any pairs program.

Thursday's competition included the North Korean pair of Ryom Tae Ok, 19, and Kim Ju Sik, 25, about whom little is known internationally.

Germany's Aljona Savchenko and Bruno Massot won the gold in one of the closest pairs competitions in Olympic history, their 235.90 points just.43 ahead of China's Sui Wenjing and Han Cong. Canada's Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford are in third. They even shared a sweet Valentine's Day moment after their short program skate.

It was the fourth gold for the United States in Pyeongchang, with all four medals coming in snowboarding.
