Five-storeyed under-construction building collapses in Bengaluru, 3 labourers killed


Rescue operations would go on into the evening. 15 more workers were reportedly trapped under the debris.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Abdul Ahad said the incident occurred at 1600 hours and immediately fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the spot and began rescue work. "Rescue operations are underway", Bengaluru Mayor Sampath Raj was quoted saying by a leading daily.

Police and State Disaster Relief Force personnel are on the site rescuing those trapped. The building was located on Kasavanahalli on Central Jail Road near Haralur. According to reports, permission was granted for the construction of only three floors. The building was under construction with labourers working in the building at the time of the collapse. They are not in town and we are trying to track down their business partner.

All the people trapped inside are construction workers, Raj said. The construction had been stopped for the last two year for unknown reasons.

In October 2017, seven persons including a pregnant woman had died when a a two-storey house crumbled down in Bengaluru's Ejipura.
