[WATCH LIVE] EFF responds to Zuma resignation

"We in this parliament are the same as Jacob Zuma and so therefore no one amongst us qualifies to be a president of South Africa if Zuma doesn't qualify to be a president of South Africa".

"The court found that we did not discharge our constitutional duties in the protection of the Public Protector in holding Zuma accountable, that was with regards to Nkandla". As a result‚ at the first opportunity to lead a motion in parliament‚ EFF will call on the dissolution of parliament in favour of early elections.

The EFF said it had no faith in the ANC, called for the dissolution of Parliament and fresh elections.

"Furthermore‚ opposition parties should not be opportunistic and field candidates for position of President because none won elections and even when combined‚ do not constitute more than 50% of the vote".

As a result, Parliament is planning a choc-a-bloc programme which begins with Zuma's removal on Thursday, Ramaphosa's election on Friday morning, the state of the nation address on Friday evening, Sona debate on Monday, the president response to the debate on Tuesday and the tabling of the national budget on Wednesday. "We can not be the respecters of the constitution when it comes to Zuma, but when it comes to us, we want to pretend that we are clean", he said.

Hours after ANC treasurer-general Paul Mashatile addressed the caucus in Parliament, Zuma announced his resignation.

United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa credited ordinary South Africans for Ramaphosa's election and joked that the ANC had finally managed to give Zuma a "shibobo".

Magashule also said there was no deadline for Zuma to resign based on the NEC's decision.

The House is set to elect elect Cyril Ramaphosa as the new president. So we've been a parliament which has been busy over nothing accept the protection of Jacob Zuma.

But he had no kind of words for DA leader Mmusi Maimane who promised Ramaphosa that if he acts in the best interest of the country, the DA will cooperate with him. We can be cleansed by the election process.
