Cinemark Theaters ban big bags

If you're seeing a movie at a Cinemark theater, leave the backpack or large purse at home.

Starting Thursday, February 22, Cinemark is banning large size bags to increase "the safety and security of our guests and employees".

"Effective immediately, theaters under the Cinemark umbrella will ban bags and packages that are larger than 12" x 12" x 6".

The chain no longer allows people to bring in bags or packages bigger than 12-inches by 12-inches by six-inches. The only exceptions are medical and diaper bags, the release said.

Cinemark, headquartered in Plano, Texas, has 533 theaters with 5,957 screens across the United States and Latin America, according to its website.

The company says it is taking this action in light of shootings at theaters in Colorado and Louisiana. Concert venues and sporting arenas in the Bay Area often check bags on event nights.
