Arizona faces OR tonight, with Ayton and Miller's status obviously in question.
Ayton played for the Wildcats Saturday night in a loss to OR in Eugene.
The bribery and corruption case enveloping college basketball could roil Arizona and USC, the teams at the top of the Pac-12 standings.
Ayton's attorney issued a statement from the family Saturday stating they were "outraged and disgusted" by the report which detailed Arizona coach Sean Miller discussing payment for Ayton on an Federal Bureau of Investigation wire tap.
Romar, former head coach at Washington, has been tangentially linked to the ongoing FBI investigation, according to the Daily Star, because of documents that an agent paid former Husky guard Markelle Fultz $10,000.
Miller released a statement ahead of the Wildcats' matchup with OR (19-10, 9-7), noting that it was "in the best interest" of the team for Miller to not coach the game. ESPN.com's report does not provide direct quotes captured on wiretap from Miller but cited sources "familiar with the government's evidence".
The school released a statement saying that star freshman Deandre Ayton and that Lorenzo Romar would also coach in Miller's place.
The school did not specify why Miller didn't coach against OR or if he will sit out any other games.
OR took advantage of Arizona's 17 total turnovers in the game, taking the lead in the second half.
"I continue to fully support the University's efforts to fully investigate this matter", Miller said in a statement. Smith, starting for Trier, had 11 points.
Rawle Alkins, 6-5, So.
McIntosh's 3-pointer made it 95-88 with 1:07 left. Oregon's Payton Pritchard missed a driving bank shot with two seconds remaining, sending the game to overtime.
Local fans say they are interested to find out if there will be any immediate systematic changes to college basketball, but despite the situation, will continue to support the University of Arizona basketball program.
