Rumors are mounting that Apple will release a trio of new iPhones later this year, including a Plus-sized iPhone X successor that may have a larger display than the recently revealed, 6.2-inched Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus.
Despite selling 77.3 million iPhones over the last quarter, the hype didn't live up to analyst expectation, and it's clear that Apple needs to work harder than ever to sell iPhones if it is to keep up with what investors are demanding. With its next lineup, Apple is seeking to rekindle sales by offering a model for everyone.
"We saw that with the iPhone 6, and we think this is setting up to be a similar step up in growth".
The new lineup is created to meet the demands of all kinds of iPhone users from those that love the complex features of phablets to those looking for an iPhone that is less costly than the iPhone X.
Apple declined to comment. "It's about when is my phone so old I need to upgrade, and what's available when I need a new one". Samsung traditionally announces new Note series devices in the fall, so it is possible it might launch a larger screen around the same time Apple's new models hit the market.
The body of "D33" would still be the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus, but thanks to its edge-to-edge screen, will be the largest iPhone yet.
The iPhone is expected to target business users who require a bigger display for spreadsheets and multitasking.
The new smartphones will cater to the growing demand for multi-tasking features and for the market segment that looks for less expensive iPhone X version, Bloomberg said. It is not clear whether this big iPhone will also affect the sales of lower end iPad models.
Said to be code-named D33, the largest device will apparently pack a almost 6.5-inch screen into a body "about the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus", likely sporting a similar overall resolution of 2688 by 1242.
For the cheaper LCD iPhone, the report stated that it would look similar to the iPhone X including the Face ID and shrunk bezels. Apparently, the company tried to introduce gold for iPhone X but ran into production problems. Still, Apple may ultimately decide not to proceed with the colour. The 6.1-inch iPhone device will not get a dual camera nor 3D Touch, according to a previous KGI report. That would let people use their phones in countries with different carrier plans without having to swap out cards.
According to Bloomberg, the reason why Apple is making three iPhones is that they want "a model for everyone".
The new iPhone models will all, of course, come with the latest operating system in the form of iOS 12 which is expected to bring augmented reality support, deeper Siri integration and digital health monitoring.
The screen resolution of 1242 x 2688 is another feature that will make the new iPhone 1 attractive. Earlier this month, chief executive Tim Cook said the handset had been Apple's best-selling phone every week since it went on sale in early November. Apple soon discontinued the 5c. The high-end smartphone will use next-gen A12 processors and include stainless steel edges.
