According to the leak, HTC U12 (codenamed Imagine) would feature a 12-megapixel + 16-megapixel camera setup. HTC was also the first to introduce dual-rear cameras on the One (M8), but lost track and never introduced the same on any other smartphone except the One (M9+).
It remains unclear how the dual camera system will work, but usually, when two cameras have a distinctly different number of megapixels, the other is a different type of lens, like a wide-angle or zoom configuration. At the front, there could be an 8MP selfie camera. To start with, the Desire 12 Plus features a 5.99-inch HD display with a screen resolution of 1440 x 720 pixels and a pixel density of 268ppi.
Under its hood, the smartphone is likely to make use of an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC teamed up with Adreno 630 GPU, 4GB/6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The device could be unveiled in both single and hybrid dual SIM models.
There will also be an updated version of HTC U11's headline feature, Edge Sense, which allowed users to launch apps by simply squeezing the sides of the phone.
Now, HTC has not announced anything about a probable release date for the phone but LlabTooFeR does seem confident about an April release.
Running Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box with Sense 10 UI and support for Project Treble, the Taiwanese smartphone maker is also expected to add support for Face Unlock along with a fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication. In the past, Sprint was able to have an exclusive carrier right for the U11 but it is unclear if they are going to be able to get the same privilege with this new phone. Whether this'll be the case once again remains to be determined.
