Season two finalist and CT resident Kimberley Locke gives us a whole recap.
Say goodbye to Simon Cowell-the celebrity judges this time around are Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan. The sixteenth season of American Idol kicked off with the three judges critiquing aspiring singers in New York, Nashville, Los Angeles, and Orlando.
In addition to American Idol showing a montage of hopefuls getting cut, five contestants were each shown giving a full audition and then being rejected by the panel, who attempted to be candid but also respectful in the way they handled the bad news.
Sanders will surely be featured heavily as viewers get to know these American Idol contestants. ("Koby prepares!" she triumphantly points out to viewers.) The opera-trained 26 year old tanks spectacularly by blowing out the judges' eardrums with her original song "Never Stops". It's no secret millions tuned in to the original series to see what type of comedic entertainment in the form of a Hollywood hopeful would grace the judges with an unforgettable moment.
For Catie Turner, what really stood out to me was how intriguing of a songwriter she is.
"Once you're in front of the judges, it is very quick".
Ron, a 21-year-old entrepreneur originally from Congo who now resides in Plano, TX, sang "Let It Go" by James Bay. But Richie said that Seacrest is still the anchor that holds the show together. Katy and Treavor did some major flirting, but alas, he has a girlfriend.and a golden ticket. "Katy said she could see herself listening to my voice all day with a drink in her hand". "There's no dismissing and just sending off and saying, 'You suck.' That's not how we roll".
You look at someone like Layla Spring, who's the same age as Alyssa, and it's clear that Layla's young age/lack of experience really showed during her performance, despite having some really nice moments in the song.
Equally impressive is Dennis' smooth rendition of Allen Stone's "Unaware".
