Baltimore chef Cindy Wolf of the Foreman Wolf Restaurant Group has again been named a James Beard Award finalist. Yin was among the semifinalists for the same award in 2017 as well. While over 20 DC-area names were recognized in almost every category in this year's first round, only a handful remain contenders.
So much for a Houston three-peat in the James Beard Best Chef: Southwest category. He's the first Miami-area finalist for the award since Jeff McInnis made the so-called shortlist in 2013 after helping found Yardbird Southern Table & Bar in 2013.
Outstanding Service: San Francisco's iconic Zuni Cafe will go up against the city's Saison and three other USA restaurants for the award that honors a business that "demonstrates high standards of hospitality and service".
The Deep Run resident, who hosts "A Chef's Life" on PBS, received a nomination for Outstanding Personality/Host and another for Video Webcast. The category is reserved for chefs aged 30 or younger. Both were finalists for this award previous year.
Outstanding Wine, Beer or Spirits Professional: Finalist Miljenko "Mike" Grgich's claim to fame is making the 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay that beat the best French white Burgundies at the Judgment of Paris in 1976.
