Teen Titans GO! to the Movies will star our favorite Teen Titans' characters, but also add Wonder Woman, Superman and Green Lantern, who will be played by Halsey, Nicolas Cage and Lil' Yachty, respectively. He was also in the running to play Superman in the notoriously troubled film production of Superman Lives!
In the case of Cage, other than Ryan Reynolds, he is a comic book fanboy at heart and is definitely a fan of Superman. And, of course, the rest of the show's original core cast will be reprising their roles as Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven and Beast Boy. He was once the owner of a near-pristine copy of Superman's 1938 debut Action Comics #1 (later sold for $2.16 million) and infamously gave the name Kal-El to his son with Alice Kim - the Kryptonian character's birth name.
In the official teaser trailer for the movie Robin pulls the reins of the gang straight to Hollywood where they search for big-name superheroes that people find inspiration in, where they then bump into Kristen Bell who plays the Hollywood director who helps the Teen Titans land their big break. Adding Cage to the cast as Superman, however, is a masterstroke. And after seeing some pre-production images of Cage in the suit, most fans are glad Burton's vision got torpedoed. The development and cancellation of the infamous project was chronicled in the documentary The Death of Superman Lives: What Happened? in 2015. But when the group is radically misdirected by a serious super villain and his maniacal plan to take over the Earth, things really go awry. The team finds their friendship and their fighting spirit failing, putting the very fate of the Teen Titans themselves on the line!
Teen Titans Go! To the Movies will be the first theatrical release based on a Warner Bros. animated series since 1993's Mask of the Phantasm, based on Batman: The Animated Series.
