Raiders, Patriots rumored to have interest in Jordy Nelson

Wilkerson is unlikely to deal with the level of distractions in Green Bay that he did in NY, and he'll join a strong locker room with established leaders in Aaron Rodgers, Daniels and Clay Matthews, among others.

Asked if the Packers offered Nelson the opportunity to come back in 2018 at a reduced salary, Gutekunst said, "There were a lot of discussions that went on".

The decision to cut Nelson creates $10.2 million in cap space for the Packers and leaves just $2.3 million in dead money.

A second-round pick in 2008, Nelson recorded 550 catches for 7,848 yards and 69 touchdowns in a decade with Green Bay; he missed the entire 2015 season due to a torn ACL suffered in a preseason game.

To some surprise, he is instead signing with the Green Bay Packers, according to multiple reports Tuesday afternoon. The Packers signed Martellus Bennett last offseason, but the team released him midseason saying he failed to disclose a previous injury. In a move I have yet been able to totally process, the Packers released wide receiver Jordy Nelson.

Another big name National Football League player has found a new home today as free agent tight end Jimmy Graham is expected to sign a three-year deal with the Green Bay Packers.

First-year general manager Brian Gutekunst called Nelson "one of the great Packers who played here".

Last year, Graham made the Pro Bowl after recording 57 catches, 520 yards and 10 touchdowns. A favorite of quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Nelson is entering his 11th season and has four 1,000 receiving yard seasons. Former Jaguars receiver Allen Robinson will reportedly get a three-year, $42 million deal from the Chicago Bears.

Gutekunst, a UW-La Crosse graduate, and the Packers are already off to quite the start, having agreed to terms with free-agent tight end Jimmy Graham and defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson.

Richard Rodgers, who will be a free agent, caught the other.

Without knowing what those mean for Nelson's potential contract with the Raiders, let's take a look at what his addition would look like for Oakland's receiving corps. His best season might have been in 2014, when he caught 98 passes for 1,519 yards and 13 touchdowns.
