Diego Costa believes strike partner Antoine Griezmann would be better off staying with Atletico Madrid for another season.
Griezmann is being linked with moves to Manchester United and Barcelona and the Blaugrana are reported to be leading the race to sign the France International. However, in the end he chose to stay with Atletico after they were handed a transfer ban that stopped them from signing a replacement.
The future of Griezmann: "He knows what we love him, that he is very important".
"He's with us now and we want it to remain that way". I would be happy if he'd stay. For me that'd be him staying. He is still with us, I hope he continues to be.
It marks a stark contrast to the start of the season when Costa was left killing time in Brazil after being dropped by Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
His performances since coming back into the side, scoring six times in 14 appearances in all competitions, have earned him a recall to the Spain squad for the first time since June past year for the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Argentina. "If that's the case, I hope I can in any way I can and the people see what they expect from me, that is to score goals, and give my best for the national team".
The man who replaced Costa at Chelsea, Alvaro Morata, has come in for criticism of late after going 13 games without scoring and was omitted from Julen Lopetegui's latest Spain squad.
On Morata's omission, Costa added: "I miss Morata because we get on well". My life's never been easy, and I improve with competition.
'It's not a question of knowing where I'll play, which can also be boring, but rather the fact of receiving calls at a delicate time.
