According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Men in Black reboot will star Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson, who recently worked together on Thor: Ragnarok (where they played Thor and Valkyrie, respectively).
There's no word yet on plot, though THR reports that "sources say the new project is more of an ensemble piece than a two-hander and will be more global in scope". It's not now known what role Thompson and Hemsworth would play in the film, as story details are being kept under wraps. The script has been written by Iron Man screenwriters Matt Holloway and Art Marcum. David Beaubaire is overseeing for Sony.In addition to her scene-stealing work as the Asgardian warrior Valkyrie in Ragnarok, Thompson appeared in Alex Garland's recent sci-fi picture Annihilation and is now shooting Creed II, which returns her to the boxing drama with Michael B. Jordan. So far, character details have not been revealed, but the film will somehow be connected to the 1997 original, which starred Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones as secret agents tasked with monitoring aliens living on Earth and keeping their existence from the public. Earlier reports suggest Sony wanted a diverse cast for the movie featuring a white male, a black woman, and an older man.
Sony's Men in Black spinoff is scheduled for release in theaters on June 14, 2019. Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald return as producers. The film spawned two sequels, the first in 2002 and another a decade later in 2012.
