The Egyptian football legend has become a symbol of national pride for Egyptians, taking part in numerous advertising campaigns and, most recently, becoming the new face of the Ramadan lantern.

The Reds avoided a case of "after the Lord Mayor's show" by following up their progression to the Champions League semi-finals earlier in the week with a 3-0 victory over the Cherries at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah wants to rewrite Liverpool's record books but admitted he would swap all of his goals if it means he becomes a Champions League victor.

Salah is just the third player in Liverpool's history to score 40 goals in a season, joining Roger Hunt and Ian Rush, and the latter's club record of 47 is the next feat in his sights. This was the first time for Salah to be nominated for BBC African Footballer of the Year. I have no doubt; (it's) the Champions League.

'If you had a choice, then of course it is the Champions League, ' said Salah.

"It is a great feeling, of course it is a great feeling, but in the end I am just happy to score and help the team", he told the press, according to FourFourTwo.

Drogba achieved the record by scoring 29 goals in the 2009-10 season to help Chelsea to a treble, and it was equalled a fortnight ago after Salah got the victor against Crystal Palace.

He is now five goals ahead of his nearest rival, Tottenham striker Harry Kane, in the race to win the Premier League's Golden Boot award this term.

"That is the most important thing for us, that we play as a team, as 11 players, and so each goal for me is to help the team".

The victory rounded off a fine week for Liverpool, which sealed a Champions League semifinal against Roma by beating Manchester City 5-1 on aggregate. 'You can see everyone tries to pass the ball to help me. "I'm sure he'll keep doing that for the rest of the season".

"Jurgen Klopp should sit down for what would be an uncomfortable conversation with Mo Salah in the next few days, as I believe the moment has come for him to make what would be a huge sacrifice for the good of the team", Aldridge said.
