Ex-FBI Director James Comey: President Donald Trump 'morally unfit' for office

Former FBI Director James Comey gave a no-holds-barred interview on Sunday night in which he called Donald Trump "morally unfit to be president" and a liar who possibly obstructed justice.

Speaking to George Stephanopoulos at his Virginia home, Comey doubled down on his take of Trump being a volatile, immoral, mob boss of a leader who has no regard for law or order. He labeled Comey "disgruntled" and accused him and allies of having "committed many crimes".

In his press tour, Comey is sure to be asked to weigh in on Trump and the various twists and turns in special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 election as well as any potential links between Russia and Trump campaign associates.

"We had the problem that President Obama had twice publicly basically said, 'There's no there, there.' In an interview with-on Fox, an interview on '60 Minutes, ' I think".

Comey made the remark after ABC's George Stephanopoulos in their interview Sunday night said his forthcoming book had a "sense of alarm" about it.

"The big questions in Comey's badly reviewed book aren't answered like, how come he gave up Classified Information (jail), why did he lie to Congress (jail), why did the DNC refuse to give Server to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (why didn't they TAKE it), why the phony memos, McCabe's $700,000 & more?".

Comey reiterated that he hoped such tapes existed and said the secretive nature of the meeting might imply Trump knew he was flouting convention.

Warning that Trump "may act to cripple or shut down an investigation by the nation's top law-enforcement agencies into his campaign and administration, " the paper said, "lawmakers need to be preparing now for that possibility because if and when it comes to pass, they will suddenly find themselves on the edge of an abyss, with the Constitution in their hands".

The Republican National Committee already has launched an offensive against the book, challenging the former director's credibility with a feature on its website titled "Lyin Comey".

Bongino said that Comey seems to "selectively" keep certain things quiet when they can be used as leverage against President Trump.

Comey said Trump was "of above average intelligence who's tracking conversations and knows what's going on".

Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, asked Comey if he had ever "been an anonymous source in news reports about matters relating to the Trump investigation or the Clinton investigation?" or if he had ever "authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports about the Trump investigation or the Clinton investigation?" "I was dreading it", Comey said, noting he'd be "an unhappy F.B.I. director, but in a way proud of the organization and in my role in trying to protect it".

Trump fired Comey in May 2017, setting off a scramble at the Justice Department that led to the appointment of Mueller as special counsel overseeing the Russian Federation investigation. "His leadership is transactional, ego driven and about personal loyalty". Is Donald Trump unfit to be president? She wrote in her book that he "shivved" her. Flynn has since pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI about his contacts with Russia's ambassador and is now cooperating with the Mueller investigation.
