Steph Curry in step closer to National Basketball Association return

San Antonio assistant coach Ettore Messina coached the team in Popovich's absence.

When will the Western Conference semifinals start? The Warriors plan to reevaluate Curry on April 27, making it possible he could return just in time for the Warriors' second-round playoff series.

Curry has missed 13 straight games since suffering from a Grade 2 left MCL sprain on March 23.

The team released an official update on Curry's status Saturday, saying the guard will begin participating in modified team practices Sunday and "the intensity of his on-court rehabilitation will continue to increase". It comes down to a critical Game 4 at the AT&T Center, where the Spurs have mostly found success, except for Thursday's Game 3 and occasional losses in the regular season. The Warriors outshot the Spurs from deep (10-for-32 to 7-for-33), hung with them on the glass (39 to 41 in rebounds) and had the best player on the floor in Kevin Durant (26 points, nine rebounds, six assists, 9-of-17 shooting).

The Spurs have a different history in elimination games, however, during this 21-year run. Curry's knee shows significant progress next week.

Curry has been with the Warriors' on their five-day trip in San Antonio both to advance with his rehab and to be with the team. Following practices and shootarounds, Curry has worked on exercises with an elastic band.
