The company announced today that Google Assistant is now able to work with 5,000 smart home devices. "Today, the Google Assistant can connect with more than 5,000 devices for your home-up from 1,500 this January". Entertainment queries and commandsincreased more than 400 percent in the last six months.
Since then, Google has worked to incorporate the Assistant into more devices to better compete with Amazon's Alexa ecosystem.
"Rolling out this month, DISH's Hopper family of receivers will work with the Google Assistant, so people in millions of US homes can operate their TV using their voice and a Google Assistant device". Google said it is working with television manufacturers to build Google Assistant into the next generation of TVs launching later this year. "That includes cameras, dishwashers, doorbells, dryers, lights, plugs, thermostats, security systems, switches, vacuums, washers, fans, locks, sensors, heaters, AC units, air purifiers, refrigerators, ovens ... we can keep on going!" This month a new Google Assistant connection to DISH's Hopper family of receivers will empower more millions of people to skip the remote and manage their sets with voice commands.
Google Assistant is also compatible with over one million "actions", which are things that it can do.
"Just say "Hey Google, play ESPN on the Hopper" to your Google Assistant and your TV will automatically tune to the right channel".
The company's voice helper debuted at Google I/O 2016 and can now be found in Google's own smart speakers, as well as Android phones, and integrated with several third-party products. We recently announced support for IKEA lights and Deutsche Telekom's Magenta hub which enables dozens of devices to be controlled by Google Assistant.
In addition, Google Assistant supports smart door locks from August and Schlageand Panasonic's home security cameras.
