Carrick, who will join United manager Jose Mourinho's backroom team from next season, was handed the captain's armband for his final game at Old Trafford and given a guard of honour as the teams emerged for kick-off.

Marcus Rashford was the main culprit and speculation about his departure arose the minute Mourinho criticized his performance.

Michael Carrick ended his Manchester United playing career at Old Trafford by helping to set up the goal in a 1-0 win over Watford on the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday.

United's official website put out a statement on their team news shortly before kick-off, explaining that the Frenchman picked up a small injury in training on Saturday. I can make changes. "But we did our job the best we could and now I think the boys can feel they did a positive Premier League, of course much better than last season". So, we are the second best in the Premier League and we are one of the two best in the FA Cup. 12 years later Carrick leaves the Old Trafford turf for the final time as a player having won nearly everything.

United stayed in control for most of the game, barring one moment where Richarlison ghosted past Eric Bailly, only to see his header brilliantly saved by Sergio Romero.

"We can disagree but he is still the manager and I am the player".

Watford have gone seven matches away from home without scoring, so they should be there for the taking for Carrick and the United side as they finish their preparations for the cup final.

"And when Michael has the pro licence badges, normally with the personality, friendship and honesty he has, I think it will be for him".

"If he's now on 200, I hope, next season, he goes into the 250s". I'm not sure if he can do it for 90 minutes, but even if he can, I will bring him off so he can come off on his own.

Several fans believed that him being left out of the squad entirely meant that his exit was all but assured.
