PSG Recruits Thomas Tuchel as New Manager

The good news, of course, is that Tuchel is an excellent manager, and his high-pressing style seems well suited to ensuring PSG play like a team, rather than a set of brilliant individuals, as has been the case too often over the past several seasons.

Tuchel was a free agent after leaving Borussia Dortmund a year ago, despite leading the team to victory in last season's German Cup.

The Paris Saint-Germain superstar took the prize despite missing the last three months of the season due to injury. The world's most expensive player scored 19 goals in just 20 league games for PSG before suffering a foot injury in February that required surgery in his native Brazil.

The biggest challenge for Tuchel, 44, will be delivering success in the UEFA Champions League, something which evaded Emery as PSG crashed out in devastating fashion to Barcelona in 2016/17 and then again at the hands of Real Madrid this season.

Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) have turned to the uncompromising German coach Thomas Tuchel to finally boost the club's Champions League record after years of relative failure.

It is undoubtedly on the European scene that Tuchel will be expected to deliver, PSG having this season won the Ligue 1 title as well as the French and League Cups. "I can't wait to start working with all these great players who are all among the best in the world".

Emery announced his departure back in April, after a decision was reached not to renew his two-year contract.

However, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said on Saturday he was "2000 per cent" sure the Brazil global would stay at the club. "He has the mix of spectacular and effective principles that have always been the true strength of German football". Tuchel comes in after taking the reins at Dortmund from Jurgen Klopp in 2015.

"I think he is going to stay at PSG because it's a solid project", Emery, who will leave PSG in the summer, told Cadena Ser radio. Emery, who on Sunday was named as France's coach of the year, will lead the side for the last time against Caen this weekend.
