TI Arrested Because a Security Guard Didn't Recognize Him

T.I. says his early morning arrest was completely B.S. and believes he got locked up by white police officers for being an affluent African-American celebrity. Media reports say the Grammy-winning artist, whose real name is Clifford Harris, lost his key and the guard wouldn't let him into the community.

The guard told police he did not recognize T.I., and did not let him in the gate. "Words were exchanged and apparently the guard and/or a supervisor called the police". He was arrested around 4.30am after he got into an argument with a security guard, according to Henry County Police.

Following his arrest, the rapper T.I.'s mugshot has been released. "T.I.is adamant that the guard was the aggressor and "antagonized" him". T.I. denied that anything became physical.

T.I. was taken into custody on misdemeanor charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness.

T.I.'s attorney, Steve Sadow, referred to him as "Tip" in a statement to WSB-TV.

'The guard was sound asleep when Tip arrived at the guardhouse. When things escalated, T.I. called his friend, Marquinarius Holmes, 40, who was arrested on outstanding charges from Clayton County and for not having proof of auto insurance, the sheriff's office told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The 37-year-old Atlanta native told The Blast website that law enforcement near his home are "white cops in a very white area", and he was promptly arrested after he and a security guard - who is black - had a "very heated debate".

His friend, Marquinarius Holmes, 40, of Stockbridge, was arrested on outstanding charges out of Clayton County and for not having proof of vehicle insurance, the sheriff's office told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "The guard refused entry", the statement said. He has been released without bail. He called the incident "small potatoes" compared to all that he's been through and said he would let God "deal with the craziness..." It took Tip some time to wake up the sleeping guard. He says he gave the guard "every opportunity" to apologize for sleeping, but the guy refused.
