France, one of several European powers dismayed by the USA withdrawal from a 2015 nuclear accord, said Washington's method of adding more sanctions on Tehran would reinforce the country's dominant hardliners.

In it, he gave a list of nuclear activities that Iran must give up.

"Europe is very, very united in its position on the nuclear accord with Iran, and that will not change", Maas was quoted by Reuters as saying.

He also said he would reinstate USA nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose "the highest level" of economic bans on the Islamic Republic.

"Iran was committed to the deal".

They should condemn USA for allegedly breaking a United Nations resolution that supports the nuclear deal.

On Monday, Pompeo described demands for any new nuclear deal with Iran that includes the United States.

All of the above signatories pledged to honour their commitments under the deal.

On Friday, the European Union took its pivot away from US -hegemony a step higher when it announced a series of steps to counter USA sanctions over Iran's nuclear ambitions, including enabling member states to make direct payments for oil to Iran's central bank as well as the revival of a 1990s blocking statute that allows European Union firms to ignore US sanctions without fear of reprisal from Washington. "They have harnessed all political, economic, military and propaganda measures against Iran", Khamenei said.

In a May 21 speech, Pompeo set out conditions for any new deal with Tehran, including curbing its support for armed groups in Syri, Lebanon, and Yemen.

Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump pulled out of the 2015 nuclear deal that lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for curbs to its nuclear programme.

"Pompeo and other United States officials are trapped in old illusions".

US President Donald Trump has long said the 2015 deal with Iran - also signed by Britain, China, France, Germany and Russian Federation - did not go far enough, and now wants the Europeans and others to support his hard-line strategy.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, addressing government officials on the occasion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, said the US has been aiming to topple the Islamic republic for 40 years.

Iran's top leader set out a series of conditions on Wednesday for European powers if they want Tehran to stay in a nuclear deal after the USA exit, including steps to safeguard trade with Tehran and guarantee its oil sales.

Tehran insists its nuclear program is entirely peaceful, and its compliance with the deal has been verified by the United Nations nuclear watchdog.

He said the Trump administration had made "enormous efforts" in countering Russian threats.

In the cartoon series created 78 years ago, the plucky mouse Jerry consistently outsmarted the larger cat Tom, although both did their best to torment each other. "Europe must compensate for that silence", Khamenei said according to state-run news agency IRNA.
