There was talk of a Top Gun 2 for years without anything ever materializing, but now it's official. This won't be the first time Kosinski has brought a popular '80s movie property back to the big screen either; he also directed the Tron reboot Tron Legacy in 2010. Jerry Bruckheimer also will return to produce the sequel along with David Ellison and Cruise, THR reported. No other cast besides Cruise have been announced yet.
The sequel is scheduled to be released on July 12, 2019.
