Serena Williams of the USA returns a shot against Krystyna Pliskova of the Czech Republic during their first round match of the French Open tennis tournament at the Roland Garros stadium in Paris, France, Tuesday, May 29, 2018.

"Look, you would be hard-pressed to find anyone betting against Serena doing the unexpected because she's done it so often in her career", Courier, commentating for British broadcaster ITV, told Reuters.

But Williams, who married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in mid-November following the birth of their daughter, said she is keen to have another child, and soon. One break was enough for the Australian to take it 6-3.

In addition to being a symbol of confidence and empowerment, the suit also reminds Williams of Black Panther.

"She will not want to leave early because she loves Paris", Courier, victor in 1991 and 1992, said. I always wanted to be a superhero, and it's kind of my way of being a superhero.

For an interview with Harper's Bazaar, Serena Williams wore a jacket that said: "Queen".

"That's the reason I have success, because I go every day on court knowing that I can win, that I can lose, and that's the sport".

Williams will face 11th seed Julia Gorges of Germany in round three and she believes she has a lot more to come.

"I think people need to talk about it more because it's nearly like the fourth trimester", she also says to Bazaar.

"I am so happy to be back here".

Serena Williams made a knockout return to court at the French Open, some nine months after giving birth to her daughter and 16 months since her last match.

A 5th ace of the contest won her the set. Pummeling winners and celebrating each with a cry that split the Paris sky, she powered back with four games in a row.

"She's not quite at the level she was when she was at her best but that's expected". Pliskova managed to win 61 percent of her total service points and produced 13 aces in her second round victory.

"Next up for Serena is 17th seed Ashleigh Barty". It's impossible to know quite what level her fitness is at, either, because she hasn't had to play two weeks of competitive tennis in nearly 18 months.
