Designer Kate Spade found dead in apartment

Iconic designer Kate Spade was found dead Tuesday in a suspected suicide inside her Upper East Side home, cops said.

Spade's body was found in her Manhattan apartment by her housekeeper, according to The New York Times. The New York Times reports that Spade left a note for her 13-year-old daughter, saying that what happened was not the teen's fault. They spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.

A second NYPD source said the call came in at 10:30 a.m. this morning and a suicide note was found.

She was married to Andy Spade and together the couple created Kate Spade Handbags in the 1990s, later expanding the fashion line to include clothing and jewelry. Last year, the brand was purchased by Coach for US$2.4 billion (S$3.2 billion).

Born Katherine Noel Brosnahan, the Kansas City, Missouri, native was a former accessories editor at the now-closed Mademoiselle magazine before she and Andy Spade launched their namesake design company, Kate Spade New York, in 1993. In 2016, Spade started a new shoe and handbag business, Frances Valentine. She is survived by her aforementioned husband, Andy, and daughterFrances Beatrix Spade.

The actress also sent her thoughts to the mum-of-one's family, saying she was "thinking" of them during this hard time.

The New York Police Department confirmed the death of fashion designer Kate Spade, 55, on Tuesday.

On Twitter, David also shared a picture of Spade at his book signing, with a similiar message. "My heart goes out to her family and to all she has touched". She was also a staple of NYC who spread good will.
