He said it's meaningful in itself that the leaders of the United States and North Korea met, talked and signed an agreement that will carry more weight and significance than any pact previously made between the wartime foes.

Readiness training refers to standard military drills and training carried out by the 28,000 U.S. troops in South Korea, alongside their South Korean counterparts.

"We're going to denuke North Korea", Trump told VOA contributor Greta Van Susteren, adding that USA troops stationed in South Korea will remain in place, but announcing one concession long-sought by North Korea was included in the document signed earlier in the day.

"We have big teams ready to go, " including experts from the USA and other partners around the world, Pompeo told reporters. "Propaganda, all that stuff, that's not something we'd get involved in".

President Trump and North Korea's Kim Jong Un are signing a joint agreement, although the exact details are still unknown. He said negotiations would recommence "in the next week or so".

Trump told reporters Tuesday that he trusts Kim, but that North Korea's denuclearization process will be thoroughly vetted and that the U.S. Photos of Kim standing side-by-side with Trump on the world stage were splashed across newspapers. Later, the President tweeted that suspending military exercises would "save a fortune". The words came back to haunt the administration, as the war dragged on throughout Bush's presidency.

He said he was confident Pyongyang understood the need for verification that it was dismantling its nuclear programme.

"There is no limit to what NoKo can achieve when it gives up its nuclear weapons and embraces commerce & engagement w/ the world". Their seemingly friendly meeting was in sharp contrast to their tit-for-tat insults and bellicose rhetoric late past year while Pyongyang carried out its biggest nuclear and missile tests.

"We will be stopping the war games which will save us a tremendous amount of money", Trump told reporters, adding that "at some point" he wanted to withdraw U.S. troops from the South.

Most of all, I think they feel relief - relief they would not have felt, and certainly not to the same degree, if the Democrats hadn't drummed up hysteria about an impending war with North Korea. "No longer - sleep well tonight!"

Trump also drew criticism for announcing he was ending joint "war games" with South Korea, embracing the frequent North Korean criticism that the exercises are "very provocative".

One showed a smiling Kim shaking hands with Trump's hawkish National Security Advisor John Bolton, who has previously advocated military action against the North, which in turn has referred to him as "human scum".

"The secretary is in full alignment with the president to meet his goal, which is denuclearization of the peninsula", Pentagon chief spokeswoman Dana White said.
