The Broward Sheriff's Office says two armed suspects approached the 20-year-old rising star outside a Deerfield Beach motorcycle dealership Monday afternoon. "According to the dispatch call the suspects were described as 2 black males wearing hoodies, and the shooter was wearing a red mask". Sheriff's Dept. says XXXTentacion has been pronounced dead. Onfroy was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Graphic video of the rapper in his auto circulated online and on Twitter after the reported shooting.

They have since said they believe the incident was a possible robbery and are appealing for information.

Newsweek reached out to the Broward County Sheriff's Office for comment but had not yet heard back. His debut album, 17, came out last August.

" At least one of the suspects fired a gun and struck the rapper before fleeing in a dark-colored S.U.V. Mr. Onfroy was transported to a local hospital".

"XXXTentacion, whose birth name is Jahseh Onfroy, topped the Billboard 200 album chart in March with the release of "?".

Many supporters of the late rapper point to his attempts to rehabilitate his image with a plan to host a charity event, pledge to donate $100,000 to a domestic violence charity and his positivity and anti-violence stance.

"He never intentionally went out to hurt people he just had his own demons which caused bad reactions, that makes it a mistake".

Following the charges, Onfroy was removed from certain Spotify playlists as part of a new policy by the music streaming platform to address "artist conduct".

Kanye West tweeted a tribute on Monday, saying he was grateful to the young rapper "for existing". A video appeared to show him punching a pregnant woman - his lawyers said the video was "completely in jest" - and he was awaiting trial in the beating of his pregnant girlfriend.

"Thanks for inspiring me", Diplo captioned a picture of himself with XXXTentacion on Twitter.
