Kuldeep Yadav completely deceived us: Eoin Morgan

Rahul (101 no from 54 balls) steered India to their target in 18.2 overs and a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

It could be that England decide to take fewer risks against Kuldeep in the remaining matches to avoid a similar spate of debilitating wickets.

"We have actually been able to create flat wickets into wicket-taking wickets with the variety we have in the attack", skipper Kohli had said, referring to his wrist-spinners before the team departed for the United Kingdom tour. It was evident as they didn't have a clue as to which way the ball would turn.

With only 30 needed from more than seven overs, he and Rahul took their time, dealing in singles, but it only delayed the inevitable. The home side eventually went on to win the Test by eight wickets, courtesy of an all-round performance by Ravindra Jadeja and clinched the series 2-1.

Yadav was introduced into the attack in the 10th over with England on 72/1 and Jos Buttler on rampage. Jos Buttler, Eoin Morgan, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root and Alex Hales all failed to read the chinaman bowler's variations.

"Obviously they (Bairstow and Root) are quality batsmen". He became only the third Indian bowler after Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar to do so, and only the second bowler, after Pakistan's Umar Gul, to achieve this feat on English soil. It happened in South Africa too.

KL Rahul hit a sublime unbeaten century to lead India to a dominant eight-wicket victory over a chastened England in the first Twenty20 at Old Trafford.

India can now wrap up the three-match series in Cardiff on Friday, while an England win would send it to a decider in Bristol on Sunday.

England captain Eoin Morgan was his first victim, caught at midwicket on the slog-sweep, as England collapsed from 106-2 to 107-5. Kohli, who was just eight runs away, finally reached the 2,000-mark in the T20Is becoming the first Indian and overall fourth batsman to touch the milestone in the shortest format on the global level. "The start we got off to was brilliant". Kuldeep bowled well and we know he can bowl well. The crafty spinners have been troubling oppositions at will as they have been able to take wickets consistently in the middle overs even in unhelpful conditions. "I always try to do what I can do", he said, while talking about the innings-changing 14th over when he ripped out the guts of the England line-up with three wickets in four balls.

All that was left for India to do was to hit the winning runs and Kohli did so in style, launching Moeen for six down the ground, which secured the win with 10 balls to spare.

It was merely a blip for India and with the hard work done earlier in the innings Rahul and Kohli took a largely risk-averse approach.

"He (Rahul) played extremely well and I don't think anybody found batting as easy as he did today".

The latter's departure with 30 runs required gave the partisan crowd a final chance to chant Kohli's name and, after Rahul completed his second worldwide century in this format, the Indian captain smoked Moeen over the long-on boundary to complete this one-sided win.
