The follow-up to the 1986 classic was confirmed in June 2017, with the new movie set to carry the title Top Gun: Maverick. The actress played Goose's partner in Top Gun, but has been selective about her on-screen appearances in the decades since her 80s and 90s heyday as America's Pixie-Cut Sweetheart. Teller reportedly beat out Glen Powell and Nicholas Hoult for the role.
Considering Maverick blames himself for Goose's death, it's safe to assume his reconciliation with the man's child will be an emotional one. Directing the film is Joseph Kosinski, who previously worked with Cruise on the sci-fi film Oblivion.
This latest project will be set in a world of drone technology and fifth generation fighters, and will explore the end of the era of dogfighting.
Top Gun: Maverick hits theaters on July 12, 2019. Although the title Top Gun: Maverick floated around briefly, the film is now without an official title. Now, it appears that Goose's son will be joining the sequel.
