UFC 226 Results: Daniel Cormier Makes History Knocking Out Stipe Miocic

Just days after White declared publicly that McGregor, who is the only fighter in UFC history to best Lesnar's PPV records, won't face any further punishment for his unsafe and life-threatening acts at UFC 223, the news about Lesnar is par for the course.

He finished Miocic (18-3) on the ground with 27 seconds left in the round by landing several shots before the referee stepped in. Cormier was victorious in the fight and became the new heavyweight champion in the first round of the fight.

Cormier - who wouldn't rule out defending his light heavyweight title before facing Lesnar - told reporters there was nothing staged about their theatrics.

Cormier's move up to challenge Miocic was only the third superfight in UFC history between reigning champions of two weight classes. "Your day is in the past; 2010 is like the stone age". Lesnar, the former champ and a current WWE star, then lumbered into the cage, where a heated confrontation ensued.

"There's a guy I've known for a long time", Cormier said.

"I don't want to fight him if he's dirty, man", Cormier said. He's a former UFC champion.

According to UFC president Dana White, no date has been set as of yet but it's happening. "Conor has got to get through July right now".

UFC punished Lesnar by fining him $250,000 and suspending him for one year, which lead to Lesnar declaring his retirement from the sport.

Lesnar's last fight took place at UFC 200 where he defeated Mark Hunt, but the decision was changed following the Universal Champion testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs prior to his fight.

Gustafsson faces Volkan Oezdemir on August 4 in Los Angeles, but the prospect of money fights with superstars Jones and Lesnar would probably be too great to overlook for Cormier. "I don't know where they are in the process but he is going to pop up on the board here soon".
