Multiple people injured in Toronto shooting


Paramedics have confirmed that eight people have been shot.

Confirming the shooting, Toronto police Sgt. Glenn Russell told American news network CNN that the shooting began at around 10 pm local time on Sunday. At least 9 people are believed to have been shot.

Officials are expecting to issue a press release in the coming hours, according to police.

A 54 Division spokesperson told Global News the shooting happened in the Danforth and Logan avenues area, and was reported just after 10 p.m.

Witnesses told the paper an armed man dressed black fired his weapon multiple times, with up to 20 gunshots reported by people in the area.

"Victims are spread across many blocks".

Streets in the area have been closed while police and other emergency services respond.

A child is also thought to be among the victims. Toronto police tweeted saying he shooter has been killed.

Victims reportedly suffered "significant injuries".
