Michael Cohen Questions Donald Trump's 'Fitness' As President

Mr. Trump complained on Twitter Saturday morning that an attorney recording a client's conversation is "inconceivable".

Trump's lawyer Rudy Giuliani said that any attorney-client privilege claim over a recording of a phone call between Trump and Cohen has been waived. She was paid $150,000 for her account of the affair by National Enquirer, a tabloid owned by a friend of Trump, in the run up to the 2016 election.

President Donald Trump's former personal lawyer secretly recorded Trump discussing payments to a former Playboy model who said she had an affair with him, The New York Times reported Friday, July 20. Trump asks Cohen to make the payment by cheque so that it is documented.

Cohen, a self-described fixer for Trump for more than a decade, said previous year he "would take a bullet" for the Republican president.

The former Trump loyalist has hired a new attorney, Clinton White House veteran Lanny Davis, and disassociated himself from the president as both remain under investigation.

The recording was seized in the FBI raids on Cohen's home and office in April, as a part of the federal investigation into Cohen's business dealings. In most states, including NY, it is legal to record conversations as long as one party consents.

"There were real feelings between the two of us", she said. Michael Cohen, the man who once said he'd be willing to take a bullet for Donald Trump, has now provided perhaps the strongest evidence against him.

The model, Karen McDougal, has said she had an affair with Trump starting 2006 - a year after he married Melania Trump. "We have no knowledge of any of this", Hope Hicks, the campaign spokeswoman, said at the time, adding that McDougal's claim of an affair was "totally untrue". Cohen has not been charged with any crime.

"[But] it's very hard to claim fake news if people can actually hear you on tape - the more interesting thing is that Cohen apparently has lots and lots of these tapes", she added.

How many more women are involved in what now seems to be a coordinated pattern and practice on the part of Cohen and Trump to silence women for Trump's political gain?

Davis said "any attempt at spin can not change what is on the tape".

To pursue criminal charges against Cohen for breaking federal election law, prosecutors would have to have evidence that the payments went to the women to influence the election, rather than just to protect Trump personally.

Federal prosecutors in NY have been investigating whether Cohen's actions, including a payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, violated campaign-finance laws as part of a wide-ranging corruption probe into the longtime Trump fixer. The FBI investigation is separate from Mueller's probe. But Cohen told an interviewer earlier this month that he now puts "family and country first" and won't let anyone paint him as "a villain of this story".

A spokeswoman for the U.S. attorney's office and Cohen declined to comment.
