Trump calls Russian election meddling claims "big hoax"

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a statement: "Despite President Trump's repeated claims, these documents provide clear evidence of 'Russia's coordination with Carter Page, ' a high-ranking Trump campaign official, 'to undermine and improperly and illegally influence the 2016 US presidential election'".

The Trump administration on Saturday released a set of redacted documents once deemed top secret, the October 2016 Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court application and renewals to wiretap Page.

"The only plot is to interfere in the election by the Russians", he added. The warrant also described Page secretly meeting with Igor Nikolayevich Divyekin, who allegedly discussed giving compromising material on Hillary Clinton to the Trump campaign.

Levin and other conservatives have criticized the Justice Department for its failure to disclose the ties between the so-called "Steele dossier" and the Hillary Clinton campaign to the FISA judge. I will say this: "I don't see any reason why it would be", the president said last Monday.

Rubio, a member of the Intelligence Committee, disagreed with Trump's conclusion that the Page wiretap was intended as a means of conducting surveillance on the Republican's presidential campaign. "This application targets Carter Page", the document reads. The Justice Department released the heavily redacted documents after newspapers filed Freedom of Information Act requests.

The release of some information related to the Page FISA document in both the Republican and Democratic memos led to lawsuits from groups like Judicial Watch seeking more information from the Page FISA warrant.

The Republican memo issued in February said the Federal Bureau of Investigation had failed to "disclose or reference the role of the DNC, Clinton campaign or any party/campaign in funding Steele's efforts, even though the political origins of the Steele dossier were then known to senior DOJ and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials". Despite that fact, investigators said they believed - based on previous interactions with Steele - that his report was credible.

"[Mr Page] has established relationships with Russian Government officials, including Russian intelligence officers."

Hannity said several key officials signed off on the FISA warrant, including Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, former Acting Attorney General Sally Q. Yates, former FBI Director James Comey and former U.S. Attorney for Eastern Virginia Dana Boente. "Why don't they just put it all out there and let the courts decide whether or not there was sufficient credibility". "If you look at the footnote, it takes a lot more effort to define it the way they did, where you have no idea who funded it, than just to come right out and say the DNC hired Perkins Coie who hired Fusion GPS who hired Christopher Steele".

"Mr. Page is a former foreign policy adviser to a candidate for US president".

Page denies being a foreign agent.

"This is so ridiculous", he said.

In a Sunday interview with CNN's Jake Tapper on State of the Union, Page insisted that he has "never been an agent of a foreign power by any stretch of the imagination". That surveillance was carried out under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, which allows the government to monitor communications when it can persuade a judge that someone is working as an agent of a foreign power.
