Few comic-book villains share a connection with their superhero protagonists quite like Venom does with Spider-Man.
Another scene towards the end of the trailer has him once again detailing just how badly he wants to eat some poor guy's face and limbs. The second preview rectified this and gave audiences their first good look at the Eddie Brock symbiote while surpassing the trailers for Wonder Woman and Doctor Strange as the most-viewed trailer debut. The popular Marvel symbiote is possibly Spider-Man's greatest nemesis, but most people have the sharp-toothed alien all wrong.
Right up front, the trailer tells you something important about its place in the Marvel Universe: it has none.
"Human beings are disposable, but man and symbiote combined, this is the new race, the new species, the higher life form", he says in the trailer. The cast is still an impressive ensemble here, with the likes of Tom Hardy, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, Jenny Slate, and Woody Harrelson on board. "I always seem to find myself questioning something the government may not be looking at", the voiceover informs us. Although we all know that more than one villain will pop up in this film, I'm glad that Sony isn't revealing too much in the trailer.
Hardy's Brock character apologizes at one point for all the havoc that he's created.
Though this new trailer does show us some footage that we've seen before, there's plenty that's new. The film has been directed by Ruben Fleischer, and is now in post-production, ahead of its October 5 release date.
