You can shop for school supplies, clothing, and some appliances without having to worry about added taxes.

The tax-free weekend offers great savings on hundreds of items, but not everything is exempt, such as watches, radios, CD players, headphones, and sporting equipment.

The Ohio Department of Taxation has announced a two day, sales-tax holiday. Backpacks, lunch boxes and all kinds of accessories like handbags, belts and barrettes.

The list of tax-exempt items includes: ice packs, most batteries, portable radios, duct tape, notebook paper, diapers and light bulbs. This is also the bill that provided the new $100 per child tax rebate in 2018.

South Carolina, however, has continued with the annual weekend since it started in the early 2000s - and now it attracts many shoppers from North Carolina. Over the years, I've learned that it's definitely worthwhile.

Retailers exempt sales tax on back-to-school clothing and supplies beginning midnight Friday, Aug. 3, through 11.59 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5.
