United manager Jose Mourinho spoke earlier in the day to say he was not confident about his chances of signing a player today, however, Sky have revealed that United are in for the Atletico Madrid defender.
On Thursday morning, several reports claimed that United had contacted Atletico in the hopes of adding Godin to their squad before the 5pm deadline.
Godin was heading into the final year of his contract at Atletico and United hoped to trigger the release clause in his contract, which is believed to be around £18m.

But Mourinho told reporters at the beginning of deadline day that he didn't anticipate any new arrivals at Old Trafford.
The Portuguese has made three signings this summer - Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant - but has so far been frustrated in his search for a centre-back.
However, Atletico are unlikely to let their captain leave at this late stage of the summer and there are question marks over whether Godin would want to leave the Europa League holders, where he has spent the last 8 years of his career.
