England’s first-half performance was ‘embarrassing’ says Danny Rose

England vs Switzerland takes place at Leicester's King Power Stadium instead of Wembley tonight.

When England's squad for the two matches was first announced, some Leicester City fans were surprised to see neither Chilwell nor Gray included in the list after good starts to the season.

The World Cup semifinalists, who made nine changes to the side beaten 2-1 by Spain in the Nations League at Wembley on Saturday, had provided few thrills in a first half controlled by the more flowing Swiss.

Harry Maguire and Danny Rose have admitted that there were heated words between the England players in the dressing room during friendly with Switzerland on Tuesday evening. The Manchester United youngster took advantage of a rare opportunity to play the majority of the game as the central striker in Harry Kane's absence, by scoring the only goal of the game on 54 minutes.

"It's great we can all shout at each other and tell each other to improve like we did", he said.

"I'm really pleased for him more than anything", Southgate told Sky Sports after the 20-year-old scored his fifth worldwide goal. "The second half wasn't wonderful, but it was better than the first and we're over the moon we got the win". We always encourage them to have a voice.

"We had a tactical problem to sort out and so many lads playing their first 45 minutes of the season", he added of the first-half display.

We know all about the influx of foreign players into the Premier League and how the selection pool is becoming ever smaller to pick from.

'All of us weren't happy with the performance at half-time, gave them a little bit too much respect with the ball.

"Before I got in the players were trying to sort things out", he continued. They recognise when they want to be better.

"We were trying to correct one or two things but also challenge them a bit, it was an important night for us to finish well and we knew it would be hard because of the changes and amount of game time, but I'm really pleased because the players have given everything this week".

"To get two goals this week, two really good finishes, is really important for him".

England return to Nations League action next month, where Spain have certainly set the standard in their group.
