President Trump calls on allies to isolate Iran

As Donald Trump made wild claims at the United Nations on September 25, 2018, delegates from around the world literally laughed in his face.

A year later, as he prepares to deliver his second United Nations speech on Tuesday, the US President has nearly entirely abandoned his fiery rhetoric in favor of trumpeting his personal diplomatic efforts to resolve the North Korean nuclear crisis.

"I honor every nation to pursue its own customs, beliefs and traditions".

"We ask all nations to isolate Iran's regime as long as its aggression continues", Trump said.

Mr Trump's administration is pushing allies to cut imports of Iranian oil to zero as Washington prepares to restore sanctions on Iran's oil sales in November.

A year after calling North Korean leader Kim Jong-un "little rocket man" from the United Nations podium, Trump thanked Kim for working with the return American hostages and the remains of soldiers killed in the Korean conflict.

Tensions with North Korea have eased since last year's General Assembly when Trump called North Korean leader Kim Jong Un "rocket man" and threatened to "totally destroy" the country if it threatened the us or its allies.

It was an unusual reaction in a forum known for a stiff diplomatic atmosphere, but there wasn't much laughter as Trump continued his speech. Trump has said sanctions on North Korea would remain for now.

The Trump administration leaked excerpts from a speech that National Security Adviser John Bolton is expected to deliver Wednesday, in which he warns Iran of "hell to pay" for any actions against the US or its allies.

"Worst of all the deal failed to achieve its fundamental objective permanently denying Iran all paths to nuclear weapons".

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo likewise urged for the global community to join the US in taking action against what he described as "an outlaw regime".

"In less than two years, my administration has accomplished more than nearly any administration in the history of our country, so true" Trump said, a statement that was quickly followed by laughter from the crowd. "We reject the ideology of globalism and we embrace the doctrine of patriotism".

Rohani said USA policy toward Iran has been wrong from the beginning, adding that its approach of resisting the wishes of the Iranian people is doomed to fail.

"With the support of many leaders here today, we have engaged with North Korea to replace the specter of conflict with a bold and new push for peace", Trump said.
