The 25-year-old singer has had a hard few months, following the tragic death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller in September and her recent split from Saturday Night Live star fiance Pete, and has cancelled various appearances - including a performance at a cancer benefit over the weekend.

They posited that gender conventions, celebrity culture, and power imbalance may have been at play: "Grande and Davidson's relationship captivated onlookers because of its speed, intensity, and incredibly public nature".

Ariana also posted an image on Tuesday of herself with Idina Menzel, 47, who originated the role of Elphaba in the Broadway musical in 2003.

After his death, Grande apparently realized she'd rushed into the engagement and wasn't even able to fully invest in her relationship with Davidson, notes TMZ.

The pop star, 25, and Saturday Night Live actor, 24, started dating in May - the same month it was confirmed she'd ended things with the rapper - and they were engaged by mid-June.

"Their engagement is off, but they still plan on spending time together", a source told People. Grande joked that her Instagram account was just for Davidson updates. Insiders tell TMZ that there was no argument over the ring, nor one was there one over the ex-couple's other most treasured possessions: their pet teacup pig, Piggy Smallz.

The post went on to touch on the biggest news of the week - her split from Pete - with the singer announcing she's taking a break from social media. Grande and Davidson have been quiet on social media over the past few days, neither one commenting on the breakup. Look, they got more matching tattoos.
