The body has been sent for an autopsy.

Authorities said they are preparing a first-degree murder charge against a MS grandmother after her 20-month-old granddaughter was found stabbed and burned inside an oven.

The child was living with Jones at the time of the murder, police said.

He said: 'I have been in law enforcement a long time and one of the hardest things that I have experienced is when you see a child as a victim. Jones remained jailed and it wasn't immediately clear if she had a lawyer who could speak for her. The grandmother was taken in for questioning but has not yet been named or formally charged with a crime, according to the Associated Press. "I've been from St. Louis to here and some of the most horrific scenes that I've seen in law enforcement involve children".

Carolyn Jones, 48, was charged with first-degree murder on Tuesday in the death of Royalty Marie Floyd in her home in Shaw, Mississippi, Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams said.

Mississippi Department of Public Safety spokesman Warren Strain said officials are still investigating the girl's cause of death, as well as when the girl may have died. Accompanying the sheriff is Chief Deputy Gerald Wesley Jr. Police then called the sheriff's office and others for assistance.

The child was found after a call around 7 p.m. Monday night at a house on Martin Luther King Drive in Shaw, Miss., according to WTVA.

Authorities said they had no information about the circumstances leading up to the child's death.

"That's hard to say", Williams said.

The child was found inside a beige frame house in the north end of Shaw. A family member came home and saw that something had happened. "She didn't ask to be here", neighbour Tomorrow Williams told WMC-TV. A state pathologist will determine if the baby died prior to being placed in the oven.

The relative found the toddler's body inside the oven.

Robinson pleaded guilty to the murder and received a sentence of life in prison.
