New footage appears to show Saudi suspect wearing Jamal Khashoggi's clothing

"We are determined to punish those who are responsible for this murder", foreign minister Adel al-Jubeir told Fox News's Brett Baier on Sunday.

A longtime USA critic of Saudi Arabia says he feels certain that Crown Prince Mohammed directed the killing of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.

Khashoggi, a USA resident and Washington Post columnist, disappeared on October 2 after he walked into the Saudi consulate in Istanbul to obtain documents for his upcoming marriage to Hatice Cengiz.

The Khashoggi case has opened a serious new rift, with Britain, France and Germany demanding that Saudi clarify how the journalist died inside its Istanbul consulate.

After two weeks denying any involvement in the 59-year-old's disappearance, Saudi Arabia on Saturday said Khashoggi, a critic of the crown prince, died during a fight in the building.

A Saudi friend of Khashoggi who was in frequent touch with him before his death told the AP that Salah Khashoggi had been under a travel ban and barred from leaving the kingdom since past year as a result of his father's criticism of the government.

Germany last month approved 416 million euros ($479 million) worth of arms exports to Saudi Arabia for 2018. Saudi Arabia has threatened to retaliate against any punitive action, but analysts say that wielding its main weapon - oil production - could backfire, putting the prince's economic goals even further out of reach.

The murder of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi has sent a chill through exiled dissidents, with many revealing discreet government attempts to lure them to their embassies as an apparent "trap" to return them to the kingdom. The deal "will allow us to intervene to rebalance the market in any appropriate time from January onward", he said.

Following a telephone conversation between Saudi Arabia's King Salman and Donald Trump, the USA president told reporters that the king had denied all knowledge of Khashoggi's disappearance.

Merkel had said Sunday that "when it comes to our already limited arms exports. they can not take place in the current situation".

"Khashoggi refused Prince Mohammed's offer out of fear he would be arrested and killed if he returned". The kingdom predictably blamed the murder on rogue operators who will now be held accountable-i.e. scapegoated. An hour later, another Saudi official attributed the death to a chokehold.

Manal al-Sharif, a Saudi woman activist exiled in Australia, said she narrowly escaped the kingdom's dragnet in September previous year when Saud al-Qahtani sought to lure her to a Saudi embassy.

Turkish President Recap Tayyip Erdogan has announced he will "go into detail" about the Khashoggi investigation, including what authorities know about the 15-member "hit squad", in a special parliamentary address on Tuesday. Salah expressed his honest thanks to the prince for his condolences, according to the SPA. They said the "hypotheses" proposed so far in the Saudi investigation need to be backed by facts to be considered credible.

Trump said: "We'd like to find out where it is and what happened. But I want to get to the answer", Trump told reporters this weekend when asked about the Saudi investigation and Riyadh's firing of officials.
