Magic Johnson puts pressure on Luke Walton after Lakers' slow start

The Lakers have looked explosive on offense averaging the sixth most points per game in this young season (121.0), but have looked completely lost defensively giving up the fifth most points per game (121.1). "Throughout his tenure with the Lakers, Johnson has earned an internal reputation for an oftentimes volatile management style, including with his handling of Walton and the coaching staff".

Ever since the ink dried on LeBron James' contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, LaVar Ball has made himself scarce.

"We're still in the real early stages".

Johnson repeatedly said during the summer that patience was required with so many new pieces, especially if there was a slow start.

The Lakers will travel to Portland for a matchup against the Blazers on Saturday night, followed by a home game against Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors the following night. We've played some good teams and we've had a chance to win a lot of those games, unfortunately we haven't. For Walton's sake and the Lakers, let's hope that same pattern continues this season. This is something that we do all the time.

"We have been saying since the beginning that we need to be patient", Walton said. "It's our choice either to hang on to those, or it's our choice to stay present and focus our energy and time on what we can do to get better".

"That's the only thing we want to do". Lakers star LeBron James, however, doesn't think it's a big deal and says the team isn't focusing on it.

"The game is a game of runs so you have to leave those two main people in there and rotate the other guys". So if I'm talking, I'm going to explain myself no matter what the situation is.
