Sebastian Vettel reprimanded for weighbridge incident

Vettel admitted he was disappointed that Hamilton had clinched this year's drivers' title in Mexico with two races remaining, but said he remained motivated for the future, including this weekend. "They shouldn't call us like that. I wanted them to hurry up". The German said he felt it was unfair that he was called in to the pits during a critical part of the session with the threat of rain in the air.

"I don't know if I would be doing Valtteri any favours in giving him a win", he added.

"I moved to the left and that was where he chose to go".

But Vettel seems to be taking the loss in his stride, as he left an unusual message on Ferrari team radio during the second practice for the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Raikkonen, who famously won the drivers' title for Ferrari in Brazil in 2007, said that Hamilton deserved to win this year's crown and rejected the idea that his Ferrari team-mate Sebastian Vettel had lost it through team and individual errors.

"It's very close between all of us at the front, but I think there's more potential in our vehicle, so we just need to try and squeeze it out".

Hamilton had his own incident in qualifying, when he narrowly avoided a crash with Williams driver Sergey Sirotkin at the start of second qualifying.

Ferrari started the session looking to have an edge over Mercedes, but Hamilton prevailed in a hard session that was affected by light rain at various points during the hour, even if the track was dry at the key moments.

"That's what we're trying to do... and we'll see in two races' time".

"You all know what my goal will be for this weekend, so it's going to be up to me and I need to perform at my best level to fight for the win".

Haas's Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen will start eighth and 10th respectively with Toro Rosso's Pierre Gasly sandwiched in between.

British teenager Lando Norris, another 2019 rookie, was also on track in Fernando Alonso's McLaren for the first session and was faster on the quicker soft tyres than the team's departing Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne on mediums. Rain was in the air and Ferrari was hoping to make a quick switch so Vettel could return to the track in dry conditions and set a time quick enough to progress to the top-ten shootout.

Cape Town - Despite having won the championship, Lewis Hamilton says he won't be called on to return the favour Valtteri Bottas paid him back in Russian Federation by handing his team-mate a race win. It's not a massive run down to turn one but Ferrari are very good at their starts in general normally.

"I was making sure I had the gap to the driver in front, but then all of a sudden I saw a auto coming out of Turn 11 at high speed so I was like 'oh my God is that someone on a flying lap?'"
