Former US President George H.W. Bush's family took center stage at his funeral at a Houston church on Thursday (Dec 6), with grandsons who knew him better as " Gampy" serving as honorary pallbearers and his granddaughters reading from the Bible.

Thursday evening's ceremony concludes days of funeral activities honoring the 41st president. Barbara Bush died on 17 April at their Houston home.

President Donald Trump has declared a national day of mourning for the late President George H.W. Bush, to take place on Wednesday, December 5.

Earlier on Thursday, an 80-minute funeral of George H.W. Bush was held at St. Martin's Episcopal Church in Houston, reflecting his patriotism, faith and humor.

Trump also said he will visit the Bush family on Tuesday at the Blair House, near the White House. Those gathered also heard a prayer stressing the importance of service and selflessness that the president himself offered for the country at the start of his term.

George P.
