The company's New Shepard launch vehicle had been packed, racked (with a NASA payload) and stacked in preparation for a 9:30 a.m. EST (14:30 GMT) flight.

SpaceX is scheduled to launch a new Global Positioning System satellite for the U.S. Air Force sometime after 9:11 a.m. ET; Blue Origin will follow with a NASA payload at 9:30 a.m. The live stream typically starts about 15 minutes before the launch window opens and is available on the SpaceX website as well as on YouTube, or below. SpaceX's onboard launch computer triggered a hold on today's launch that pushed the company past its planned launch window.

For this mission, the satellite will be deployed to medium Earth orbit approximately 1 hour and 56 minutes after liftoff.

Update: The stars didn't quite align for a record day for rocket launches.

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, who traveled to Florida to watch the launch, announced afterward that President Donald Trump would direct the Pentagon to establish a Combatant Command to oversee America's activities in space. But as launch time approached, it made the decision to stand down and the Falcon 9 was taken from the launch pad to allow engineers to get a closer look at the issue. 2 is also scheduled to launch a communications satellite for the Indian Air Force on Wednesday, from the Satish Dhawan Space Center. "The U.S. Space Command will integrate space capabilities across all branches of the military, it will develop the space doctrine, tactics, techniques and procedures that will enable our war fighters to defend our nation in this new era".

Today, on 18th of December in the year 2018 there is a launch of a rocket of four companies. Eventually, the Air Force plans to replace the old GPS satellite constellation with an entirely new constellation, but for now, new GPS III satellites will augment the current GPS constellation.

Arianespace said weather conditions forced it to delay a mission in French Guiana.

Shortly thereafter, Blue Origin said it was canceling Tuesday's New Shepard launch because of a ground infrastructure issue.
