Mega Millions says this will be the eighth largest jackpot in its history.

No one has won since October's $1.5 billion jackpot, in which that winner's identity remains a mystery.

"[We'd] find something to do with a couple hundred million that would do some good in the world", added Dan William Peek.

Tuesday's drawing will be the fifth time Mega Millions has been drawn on the first day of a new year.

At 1 in 302.5 million, the odds of winning are astronomical.

The estimated jackpot winnings for Mega Millions for New Year's 2019 is $415 million.

"It's just hoping for the good luck", Etheridge said.

The largest Mega Millions jackpot on record was tapped in October 2018 when one winning ticket was sold in SC for a $1.537 billion jackpot. That run has pumped-up the pot for Tuesday, January 1 to that $425 mark or $254.6 million with the cash option selected.
