Rami, who starred as Freddie Mercury in the film, walked up on stage with the rest of the cast when he went to give Nicole a hug just as she turned her back on him.

"Oh my God. I just don't believe it", a tearful Close said of her win, before issuing a rallying cry to women to seek fulfillment in their careers. "Thank you to Freddie Mercury for giving me the joy of a lifetime", he said, adding in a seemingly ad-libbed moment: "I love you, you attractive man". "I am beyond moved right now", Malek began his speech.

But the evening has given Bohemian Rhapsody a jolt of momentum, and Rami Malek's best actor win in a film drama means it's very possible he could well end up taking the Oscar statuette.

The Golden Globe Awards 2019 winners were criticized heavily by Twitterati as they felt Bohemian Rhapsody did not deserve the award for Best Motion Picture - Drama over favourites like BlacKkKlansman and A Star Is Born.

"I've known her for many years, despite as it may seem from that video", he admitted with a laugh. This is a profound honour to receive this and to be counted amongst such extraordinary actors.

Queen fans and audience members didn't agree with this assessment and watched the movie in droves anyway, earning it £583 million at the global box office.

As fans chimed in to "like" the photo and express their love of the movie as well, one cheeky woman wrote, "Sir Rod - when do we get a film about you?"

He thanked Mercury and the fellow Queen members in his acceptance speech.

The Bohemian Rhapsody star went viral earlier this week when eagle-eyed fans spotted the exact moment Kidman completely snubbed him in front of the world.

But Monday's performance was a clear nod to the Freddie Mercury biopic of the same name, which beat A Star Is Born at Sunday's Golden Globes ceremony in LA.

'This is for and because of you, gorgeous'.
