Solskjaer has put his faith in Victor Lindelof, who started the first 10 games under the new boss before being left out of Saturday's 3-0 win at Fulham to rest for Tuesday's challenge.
While he felt that speculation of a run for the title was overblown, he said United could still have some influence over who wins the league.
And Solskjaer agreed the defeat of Claudio Ranieri's side was the ideal warm-up, telling reporters: "I would have to say so because it's a tough place to come and we gave them the first 10 minutes, maybe played into their hands, some counter-attacks, they put the ball into the box a few times but then, after we scored the first goal, we played a fantastic last 80 minutes". We have to learn always, and this is the way to play.
United have explored other options, such as Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane, but Joel and Avram Glazer are convinced that Solskjaer is the right man to lead the club.
"Before the coach arrived I was in the shadows, on the bench, and I accepted that", said Pogba.
"He rarely spoke in the dressing room", he added.
"We want to get higher up of course but now we have taken the step into the top four it's on to the next league game, which is Liverpool, and before that, we have a couple of nice games as well".
The two goals against relegation threatened Fulham, a brilliant powerful finish at the front post in the first half and a penalty in the second half, took the 26 year old to 13 goals either assisted or scored since December 22nd.
The midfielder is putting in numbers that are expected more so from a winger or an attacker but are more importantly the best of his career.
"When you play against champions, you have to stay calm, don't lose your composure".
"The idea of Ole going through that run of fixtures and coming out of it well, you couldn't sit here conceivably and see another manager".
"We were very far away, but now we are back in the top four through good results".
