Bernie Sanders’ campaign escalates feud with top liberal think tank

US Senator Bernie Sanders, who has made income inequality a hallmark of his presidential campaign, earned with his wife, Jane, about US$566,000 past year and US$1.15 million in 2017. "I look forward to facing whoever it may be", Trump tweeted, and then added, mysteriously, "May God Rest Their Soul!" The documents showed he paid $137,573 in federal taxes in 2018 and owed $8,267 in taxes for the year. "If I make a lot of money, you make a lot of money, that is what I believe". Acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said earlier this month the public would "never" see the president's tax returns, arguing that the 2016 election had settled the question over whether Americans cared.

That same year the Sanders family purchased a lake house in North Hero for $575,000. The Post's James Hohmann pointed out Tuesday that the most interesting nugget from the Democrats' recent tax revelations is that numerous candidates have not given much to charity. Sanders faced pressure to release his returns this year as Democrats have increasingly made an issue of US President Donald Trump's refusal to release returns. They also had a business income of $4,900.

"I wrote a best-selling book, "he told the paper".

Sanders robustly defended his wealth, as he has before - which some people have said is hypocritical. His unfavorable ratings are higher than most of his rivals, as many in the party still resent his attacks on Hillary Clinton in the 2016 primaries, contending they contributed to Trump's victory in the general election. "Like in this case, I always remind them that CAP has no editorial control over Think Progress". It included clips of Sanders criticising the influence of "millionaires and billionaires" alongside a chart showing how he became a millionaire through his books sales. Such extended criticism of his administration is rare on Fox News, which Trump is known to watch closely.

"ThinkProgress is part of CAP Action: It is editorially independent of both CAP and CAP Action and has been for years".

The accusations were prompted by an article and video published by one of CAP's projects, ThinkProgress, which claimed Sanders is a millionaire but wishes to downplay his finances because it's "very off-brand and embarrassing".

Warren released 10 years of her tax returns last year and followed with an 11th year of released returns last week. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Kamala Harris of California and Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota - have released tax records to varying degrees.

Other 2018 income included wages from his job as Senator and $51,000 in Social Security earnings, according to his filing.

The tax returns show that Sanders earned more than $1 million recently, making $1,131,925 in 2017 between himself and his wife Jane and paying a total of $343,882 in taxes at a 30 percent tax rate.
