Griezmann confirms Atletico exit amid Barcelona links

Last summer, speculation was rife the forward would leave the Vincente Calderon for Spanish giants Barcelona.

The World Cup victor signed a five-year contract last June but Saturday's La Liga match against Levante will be his last for the club.

"Antoine Griezmann has informed the club that he will not continue as a rojiblanco next season", a post from Atleti's official Twitter account on Wednesday (AEST) read.

However, a little less than a year after committing his future to Diego Simeone's side, he's made a decision to leave the club.

Griezmann had previously been attached with moves to Barcelona and Manchester United.

Barcelona will pay the buyout clause in Griezmann's contract of 120m euros, BBC Sport understands.

"I wanted to thank you for all the love you've given me in these five years, in which I've won my first important trophies with a club".

"Talks ongoing with the player about the contract to finalise the deal (5 years)".

"It's been an incredible five years; Thank you very much for everything, I take you in the heart", he said as he addressed the camera.

Griezmann, who joined Atletico Madrid from Real Socieded in 2014, helped lead Los Rojiblancos to a Champions League final and a Europa League title in his time at the club, which he had extended to 2023 upon his announcement last summer.

"I wanted to tell you I have taken the decision to leave", said the French 2018 World Cup victor.

"I know Antoine is very happy in Madrid and that he is very well there".
