Heavy rain in Nottingham since Monday is likely to delay the start of India vs New Zealand ICC World Cup 2019 encounter on Thursday at Trent Bridge.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India did not reveal the extent of Dhawan's injury, but said the left-hander will stay with the team after rumours he would have to be replaced.

"Kabhi mehek ki tarah hum gulon se udte hain.Kabhi dhuyein ki tarah hum parbaton se udte hain.Ye kainchiyaan humein udne se khaak rokengi.Ke hum paron se nahin hoslon se udte hain".

"Rishabh Pant is being flown in from India as cover at the request of the team management", a senior BCCI official told PTI in England.

"Mr Dhawan sustained an injury on the back of his left hand in the region between the index finger and thumb during the CWC 2019 league match against Australia", the statement added. Instead, the Indian team has kept the opening batsman under observation.

However, he took a blow to his hand from a Pat Cummins delivery early into his innings and did not field during Australia's reply. Shikhar Dhawan hit his third World Cup century, 117, and combined in an opening stand of 127 with Rohit Sharma. The Kiwis have won three out of the three games while India also triumphed in both the matches thus far.

He has played 10 World Cup matches since his debut in 2010, scoring 537 runs at an average of 53.70.

In this while, India and New Zealand have missed out on a practice session each.
